COUNTRY & WESTERN MUSIC CONCERT

Country & Western music concert was conducted in the school auditorium by the western music department. Students of std 6 and above performed in this context. A rehearsal was held in the morning where students of classes 1 to 5 witnessed the context & classes 6 to 9 & 11, parents & guests witnessed in the afternoon at 2.00 p.m.

Open day was conducted in the school for boarders in the morning & dayscholars in the afternoon. Parents met the respective teachers regarding their child’s performance.

BOOK EXHIBITION

Book  Exhibition was conducted in the Taekwondo room by Higginbothams Book House, Ooty.

SCIENCE & SOCIAL SCIENCE EXHIBITION

Science & Social science exhibition on Nilgiris was conducted in the auditorium. Art & craft exhibition was also held in the art & craft rooms. Various aspects of the culture, the jewellery, the flora & fauna of the Nilgiris were displayed in the form of charts, artefacts & models. Tribals like Todas, Kotas & Kurumbas were also present and displayed the products made by them. All parents witnessed the exhibition.

Indian music and dance day was held in the auditorium at 2.00.p.m. Indian music students performed Carnatic Vocal & the dance. Children performed on the theme Dasavatharam. Parents and guests were present for the programme.

The Eleventh Annual Republic Day Fete was organized in the school. The proceeds of the Fete will be used for charitable cause (for major medical treatment).

Riverside students wrote the Unified Council Examination. Tharini Suresh of std 7th achieved 24th all India rank in unified cyber Olympiad exam 2012. She got selected for level 2 (only top 500  students in each class are selected for level 2 based on marks scored in level 1).

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION

Teachers Day was celebrated in the school. The students conducted the assembly with few students giving speeches on Teachers. There was a slide show.

There was a special program arranged by the Management on 08-09-2012 in the morning. Various games were arranged for the teachers and gifts were distributed. Later in the afternoon a special lunch was organized for the staff at Riverside Dreamscapes, Aravenu.

FIRST KCM FIDE RATED CHESS TOURNAMENT

Riverside students participated in the All India Fide Rated Open Tournament conducted by Coimbatore Chess Federation and Kovai Chess Mates at PC Mahal, Ganapathy, Coimbatore.

RESULTS:

1.Trinetra of class XI was awarded the second best player in the under 18 category.

2.Nishal Singh of class 10 was awarded the best unrated player of the tournament.

287 players participated from all over India in which 9 students opened their Fide performance rating.

REPRESENTED COMBINED DISTRICT – CRICKET:

S.Kannan of std 12 played for the combined district against Chennai city in the under 19 division cricket. He was the opening batsman. The match was played at Chennai.

Riverside students participated in the Regional Level Debate, Declamation and Creative Writing Competition for ASISC (Tamilnadu Region) conducted at Virudhunagar TSM Manickam Nadar Janako Ammal School ( VMJ School), Madurai.

Manali Summer Camp

26 students along with 3 staff members attended the Manali Summer Camp. They visited various places in Hydrabad before reaching Manali. They had their base camp at North Face Camp site, Nehru Kund, Ba Hang which is 4 kms from Manali. They visited temples, monasteries and had a riverside trek, paragliding and Zorbing ball ride. They also went skiing at Madi, a mow point. They had a river rafting session. Our children enjoyed the various adventurous sports and had a memorable time.

Visit to Orphanage

Students of class 3 were taken to CMS orphanage in connection with the lesson “Special People.” Our children performed a skit, a dance, songs & conducted games for the children there. They interacted with the children & offered them juice & snacks.

Spic Macay Gurukul  Anubhav Scholarship

Shivali.K Aroraa was awarded the Spic Macay Gurukul Anubhav Scholarship for the year 2012. This is a national scholarship given to deserving students aged between 14 & 26, in various fields of India Arts such as Carnatic music, Bharathanatyam, Hindustani Music,  Kathak, Tabla, Flute, etc. The selected students spend a period of 30 days and have intensive training under the most renowned Guru in the respective field. A maximum of 10 students are selected from all over the country under one Guru. The venue for this is Chinmaya Mission Ashram, Pune.

Shivali has been selected as one among the seven in India for intensive training in Carnatic Music under the expert guidance of Vidushi  Smt.Vedavalli. She would also have the opportunity of attending interactive sessions conducted by the famous Bharathanatyam Exponent, Choreographer & Musician, Shri  C.V.Chandrasekhar & many other experts in various fields of music & dance including the great legendary Birju Maharaj. Shivali would have Yoga lessons from Padmashri Dr.Kiran Seth, an expert in Yoga.
